Deepa Narayan Jha talks about her film making
The lone national-award winner producer of Bhojpuri Cinema, Deepa Narain Jha, is a very simple, humble, and serious person. She won national award for her very first film Kab Hoi Gavna Hamaar. Her new film E Rishta Anmol Ba is now ready for release and I did a special interview of her regarding this film. Here are the excerpts:
Deepa Ji, how did you decided to become a Bhojpuri film producer ?
When we went to Mauritius for a show we felt the same environment as is in our country. A Hanuman flag here, a Shivala there. People doing puja of Sai Baba. They have kept our culture alive there. Seeing all this I thought why not produce a family entertainment film on this theme and then I discussed my plans with Uday Ji. He immediately agreed and we started producing the film which resulted as Kab Hoi Gavna Hamar and the viewers too lapped it. The film was a super hit and won a national award too. That was a memorable time for us. The award encouraged Bhojpuri film makers and other regional film makers too. It started to be said that Bhojpuri is no more a regional language but has won a national recognition.
What about E Rishta Anmol Ba ?
This is a joint Indo-Nepal venture which has artists from both countries and the shootings too were done in both countries. This is a story of two brothers and I do hope that it will entertain the viewers to their satisfaction.
What should be the base character of Bhojpuri films ?
Showing the social causes, relationship, and culture is the main theme of Bhojpuri cinema, Because when we are making a Bhojpuri film it must show case the Bhojpuri culture.
Did you face any problems in film making ?
No, nothing was like any difficulty. All the persons were very coperative to me and helped me complete my job in the best possible way.
What will you say about the rising vulgarity in the films ?
There is no such vulgarity in the films. There is more permissiveness in the real life than in reel life. Naturally if heroine is shown takin a bath, she wont be in fully dressed.
What is your views on bulk production of Bhojpuri films ?
Of course, Bhojpuri films are being produced in bulk. It appears that there is a deluge of Bhojpuri films. But we should give more importance to raising the quality of the films than its numbers. Viwers too wait when a good film is made.
